Guests often ask us about the possibility of riding our camels. Some, during their visits to Coniraya or following subsequent posts, had the opportunity to observe their progress in learning.
Here are some facts and trivia that will make everything clear.
Kacper, Melchior and Baltazar came to us without any knowledge of working with people and learned everything from scratch with us.
Our camels are weighing more and more, now they are almost four years old, half a year ago they exceeded 600 kg, with Baltazar and Kacper now closer to another hundred on the scale.
Learning? In recent months, in addition to consolidating previously acquired skills, they have been getting used to professional harnesses and have also begun microscopic (in proportion to their mass) load work with a human as a rider. We also show them that they can pull a small load. The training is light and adapted to their age.
Do we organize rides on them for “outsiders”? Not yet.
Why not, since they are already so big? Why not, since several people get on?
In accordance with the objectives of our center, we teach animals and help people understand them.
Our animals have time to grow. They work appropriately to their age and stage of development. Their training is attended by people experienced in working with animals, so that training sessions can be adapted to the students – camels.
This approach to working with animals (horses, alpacas, camels) means that we can enjoy their company under the saddle or on a walk for many, many years, and they give the impression that they still enjoy our company?
Cooperation based on mutual respect and love is the basis.
Fun facts:
Did you know that there are races for 2-year-old camels in the world? And 2-year-old horses too. Unfortunately, it’s not good for such young animals.
Horses and camels can carry people on their backs. They can do so without harm to their health.
When? When they are gradually, step by step prepared for this and are no longer in a period of intensive growth, and the training is adequate to their capabilities (age, health, mental preparation).
